02ABOUT THE SOUND
Sound is a
fissure in silence.
Breath, once released, is not yet sound. Time passes through the body, takes form once inside a metal tube, then returns to the air a moment later.
For VAREN BOSS, playing is not the possession of a melody, but a touch against the outline of what is disappearing. A listening for the unnamed velocity sinking between one sound and the next.
Improvisation is not another name for freedom. It is a posture of waiting for the one note that can exist only here, at the border between prediction and chance, memory and forgetting.
